Hughesville locals

By Staff | Nov 13, 2012

After the frighteningly severe weather of late October and early November, the past few days have been a welcome dose of sunshine and mild temperatures. I was grateful to have the chance to do some final outdoor cleanup. When the snow comes I’ll know things are ready for winter’s rest and I’ll be especially glad next spring when the preparation of flower beds and garden will be much easier.

As we approach the early winter holidays, there are several events of note taking place in the Hughesville area. The Hughesville High School Junior and Senior Class Play will be presented on Saturday, Nov. 17 and Sunday, Nov. 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the HHS cafeteria. This year’s production, “Twelve Angry Jurors” is a mixed gender adaptation of the well-known drama “Twelve Angry Men”.

Tickets must be reserved in advance, by calling the school office, 584-5111 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Your admission fee includes a dessert and beverage. I’m looking forward to a great evening of drama and a treat!

During the month of November the Hughesville Area Public Library has its showcase full of dolls, most of them Raggedy Anns and Andys. Mrs. Helen Shook of Clarkstown has kindly made her extensive collection available for everyone to view. Be sure to stop by the Hughesville Library to see this fun and attractive display. Mrs. Shook has been building her collection since she was a child and makes some of the dolls herself.

The sound of the leaf-collection truck making its rounds through the borough reminds us that winter is near and the GHBA (Greater Hughesville Business Association) wants to make this a fun and exciting time for everyone. Beginning on Friday, Nov. 23 and running through Sunday Dec. 2, the GHBA’s Five to Drive campaign will be your chance to get your free ticket validated at local businesses and submitted for a drawing for a long list of great prizes, including a car! Visit the many member businesses for more information and your chance to win. GHBA hopes you will find that most of your holiday shopping can be completed while you patronize our hometown stores.
