Montgomery locals

By Staff | Nov 13, 2012

I was talking to a colleague recently about how hectic our days can be as we tackle our everyday lives and the balance of work and family. At times, it is easy to lose track of what is important and where our priorities lie.

As our country observed another Veteran’s Day this past weekend, I am reminded of how trivial many of our daily issues are. I revisited the perspective that I so easily lose at times.

Annually, I help to organize a Veteran’s Day program in my middle and high school. Even though I am also part of our school’s plays and musicals, I have come to value our Veteran’s observance because of the message we strive to deliver. Each year, there is one hour like no other in our auditorium. Our student body is completely silent as the assembly unfolds. It is an incredible and proud moment for me as both an educator and as a wife of a veteran.

I would like to thank the Montgomery students who put on the assembly as well as those who sit respectfully in the audience. If these students are able to grasp the importance of a veterans’ observance then we, as adults, can surely do the same.

Many of you acknowledged veterans this past weekend. But if you did not, it is never too late. I would like to thank all of our veterans as well as our current servicemen and women and their families. Your sacrifice, bravery, and selflessness are the true definition of HONORABLE.
