Hughesville locals
Happy Thanksgiving! It is great to have a chance to reflect and recognize all the many blessings we enjoy. So many people have had an extremely difficult autumn and for many, recovery will be a long, hard process. I hope we all can remember them and do whatever we can to support the efforts of relief agencies. I hope you will take a look at www.disastercenter.com and choose one of the trustworthy aid programs to support. As we approach the coldest weather, the need grows for assistance of all kinds.
In our local area, starting this Friday, Nov. 23, you will want to visit the many members of the Greater Hughesville Business Association to have your “5 to Drive” ticket validated. There’s an amazing list of prizes that will be awarded at the close of the Hughesville Christmas Parade on Sunday, Dec. 2. The association especially thanks Kaiser Bros., Muncy Valley Moose, and the American Legion Post 35 for their generous contributions which greatly helped this “jump-start” for holiday shopping. Have fun while you support our hometown businesses, and come out to see the parade, led by the Hughesville Spartan Marching Band and culminating with the arrival of Santa Claus!
As a GHBA member, the East Lycoming Historical Society will have open hours for the society’s museum, located at 66 South Main Street in Hughesville. From now through Dec. 8 the ELHS Museum will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 to 3. Visit the museum, shop for local memorabilia to give as gifts (or keep!) and get your “5 to Drive ticket validated.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the HHS Jr./Sr. Class Play, “Twelve Angry Men” had to be rescheduled. If you were not able to make it fit in your calendar for last week, you have a second chance! The play will be performed in the HHS cafeteria for drama and dessert, on Sunday, Dec. 9 and Monday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. Reservations are required; please call the high school office, 584-5111 between 9 and 4.
I am sure there are many who are eagerly preparing to be in their favorite deer hunting area next Monday. Good luck to all the hunters! I hope everyone has success and stays safe!
