Montgomery locals

By Staff | Dec 4, 2012

It was a busy week for my students and I at Montgomery. We performed our fall play this past Saturday evening. There was definitely a lot of “hustle” involved. Now, it seems that the “bustle” of the holiday season has begun.

The Montgomery Band program will be holding its annual Holiday Concert this evening, Wednesday, December 5th at 7:00 p.m. Both the Middle and High School bands will be performing.

Many area churches are busy planning holiday events and services for the family. One church is even planning for a Parents Night Out! Do you need to get that last minute shopping done? Need to have some quiet time to spend with your spouse? You can take your children for the evening at the Holy Spirit Evangelical Church between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7th. There will be movies, games, crafts and stories to read. Snacks will be provided. If children need their evening meal, you are asked to provide a bag lunch. There will be a short emergency information card to fill out. If your child has dietary or medical restrictions, please provide the necessary supplies and instructions to the church. Children will need to be picked up by 9:00 p.m.

The Christmas Drive-Thru at Covenant Assembly is not one to be missed. It is a true Montgomery tradition.

Montgomery events:

The Warrior Run Fort Freeland Heritage Society will hold its annual Candlelight Service at the Warrior Run Church at the corner of Susquehanna Trail and 8th St. Drive on Saturday, December 8 at 7:00 p.m. Reverend Michael Reece, Minister of Delaware Run Wesleyan Church, will lead the service. Hot spiced cider and cookies to follow. There is no heat in the church so dress warm and bring a flashlight to read by.

The Maple Hill United Methodist Church will hold its “Hanging of the Greens” program on Sunday, December 9 at 9:00 a.m. The church is located at 36 Ridge Road, Montgomery, PA. The church invites you to join them for song and fellowship.

The Montgomery Area Historical Society will sponsor its 8th annual Open House and Candlelight Service at the Stone Church on Saturday, December 15th. This historic church is located on the grounds of the Bureau of Prisons near Allenwood. The Open House will start at 2:00 p.m. Refreshments will be available. The Candlelight Service will start at 4:00 p.m. Pastors from the Montgomery Ministerium will lead the service. A community choir will provide special music. To reach the church, turn from Route 15 onto Allenwood Camp Lane. Drive past White Deer Golf Course and into the Bureau of Prison grounds, and then follow signs. Please do not use the entrance to FCC Allenwood that is opposite Reptiland.

“New Covenant Assembly, 1270 Pinchtown Rd., Montgomery, will once again present a Christmas Drive-Thru Experience. Those attending will experience the Christmas story as they move from scene to scene without leaving their cars! Each car will also receive a small gift at the end of their journey. Involving a cast and crew of approximately 80 people of all ages, the Drive-Thru has become a Christmas tradition for many in our area. There is no cost for admission. For more information, please call 570.547.1503 or visit the church website at newcovenantassembly.org.

The Oak Grove Community Center offers BINGO every Monday evening. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and BINGO begins at 6:00 p.m.
