Is there anything to be said about the weather? For those of us who like January to have snow and true winter temperatures, this past week has been a disappointment. Anyone who was looking forward to the anticipated 50 degree days was equally disappointed. I suppose windshield wiper salesmen have been happy. Can you tell that I prefer something other than the sloppy, foggy days we’ve been having? At least we can all be satisfied that just when we become accustomed to the weather it will change!

One sure sign that spring is on its way is the advertisement of registration sessions for local Little League and AYSO sign-ups. Check the full ads for more detail (and AYSO’s website).

My children participated in both youth sports organizations and I know they enjoyed themselves and also gained self confidence and physical strength through their involvement.

East Lycoming Little League registration for both baseball and softball will be held at the Hughesville Area Public Library this coming Friday evening and Saturday morning (January 18th & 19th). Registration for AYSO soccer for girls and boys will be held at Ashkar Elementary School foyer next week, Thursday evening (January 24th) and Saturday morning (January 26th). There is a minimal fee for registration in either organization, with discounted fees for more than one child in a family. Although it may be a while until we can see spring sports events outdoors, the winter sports seasons for local high school and elementary athletes are in full swing.

With the flu season upon us, I hope everyone is taking all the recommended precautions and doing everything possible to avoid catching or spreading the viruses. Let’s all stay healthy and warm!
