The recent windy days seemed almost like early March. I was driving to Clarkstown Sunday morning and was struck by the image of patches of sunlight and cloud shadows chasing each other across the southeast slope of Bald Eagle Mountain. However, we have a while before it truly is the approach of spring that brings that kind of blustery day. I do hope everybody got their trash can lids and other loose things retrieved before they got covered by the snow.

There are many local events planned for the next few weeks. Registration for spring sports sponsored by East Lycoming Little League and Hughesville AYSO is underway. This Thursday and Saturday, AYSO sign-ups at Ashkar. Little League sign-up will again be at the library. Be sure to check the detailed ads in the East Lycoming Shopper and News for age requirements and contact info.

State Representative Garth Everett’s Town Hall Meeting for our area will take place next Thursday, so be sure you have our calendar marked and your questions ready.

There never seems to be enough help for those who need it in an emergency situation. One way you can help with relief efforts is to donate blood. The American Red Cross will sponsor a blood collection drive and asks that you call to schedule your blood donation at 1-800-733-2767.

The library also has events for children scheduled for early February. The Pre-school Story Hour will be led by Mrs. Sue Murray and on Saturday there will be a Valentine’s Day craft session. The library staff requests that you call 584-3762 to register for each event.
