Muncy locals

By Staff | Feb 20, 2013

Lots of music, and most talented music too filled the community. Sometimes I think the best concerts are the ones I hear in churches. Some of the church choirs in the area are magnificent with the best musicians. We are so lucky. I am able to hear the Resurrection Singers on occasion, and many of the churches are definitely open to the public such as the one held Saturday night at the First United Methodist Church in Muncy where the well known touring choir from Lycoming College gave their first performance of the year.

Note all the wonderful books to read at the libraries, and you don’t have to read alone. The Muncy Hughesville Book club meets every month and they really want more avid readers to join them. March 1st and 2nd is Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss will be celebrating his birthday beginning of March. Whether you like the e-books on your kindle or listening to the audio books in your car or reading the hard copy, there is always something to learn. And we can read for free!!!

March 1st and 2nd is “Read Across America Day”, and the staff of the Muncy Public Library invites parents and their pre-school aged children to help us celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Louise Fulmer will be a guest reader for a very special storytime from 10:30-11:30. The activity is geared for children ages 3-6, and registration is required. This is the second year that CLUST Retired, a part of PSEA Retired, is promoting the celebration. According to Ms. Fulmer, their goal is “to enhance literacy and encourage young children and their families to read together, to enjoy their local libraries, and to have books in the home.” Each child who attends will receive his/her own book to keep, courtesy of CLUST Retired and the Friends of the Muncy Public Library. Please call the Library (546-5014), to register for our celebration.

A committee meeting for the Muncy Alumni Association has been set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5 in the community room at the Muncy Public Library. Any alumni are encouraged to attend. For additional information, visit our Facebook page, email muncyalumni@gmail.com, or contact 570.974.5053.
