High School to present fairy tale musical

By Staff | Apr 5, 2013

The cast of Muncy High School's Musical, "Into The Woods" directed by Bob Taylor and performance will be Apr. 11-13.

Just what does happen after happily ever after?

Journey into the magical forest, home of all of our beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tale characters and discover the consequences of their actions and community responsibility through the hit musical Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim.

Muncy Junior/Senior High School will be presenting three live performances of this Tony Award winning musical at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 11, 12 and 13, 2013.

When a baker and his wife learn they have been cursed by the witch next door, they embark on a quest for special objects required to break the spell by swindling, lying to, and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack (yes the one who climbs a beanstalk).

Based upon the book by James Lapine, Sondheim takes this humorous twisted fable to a high octane, fast paced enchanted musical.

The production team leader is director Bob Taylor, with April Feigles-Rearick as assistant director and music direction my Mike Buck.

Taylor commented that Sondheim’s Into the Woods is one of the most difficult musicals to arrange, choreograph and perform. He believes that the many hours of hard work done by the combination of many seasoned senior performers and highly talented underclassmen answers all those that questioned the logic behind a smaller school like Muncy taking on the challenges of this tremendous production.

The cast consists of Jarrod Houseknecht (The Baker), Olivia Renkel (The Baker’s Wife), Becca Kriner (The Witch), Katie Stepp (Cinderella), Josh Lloyd (Jack), Olivia Wetherhold (Little Red Riding Hood), Ted Coppas (Narrator), Michael McJunkin (Mystery Man), Nickolette Jones (Jack’s Mother), Yanni Pashakis (Cinderella’s Prince), Matthew Renkel (Rapunzel’s Prince), Bridget Murphy (The Wolf/Giant), Bryce Phillips (Stewart/Cinderella’s Father), Cassie Swisher (Rapunzel), Vicky and Becky Smith (Cinderella’s Step Sisters), Rachel Michalick (Cinderella’s Step Mother), Nicole Dgien (Cinderella’s Mother/Granny), and Elizabeth Carey (Sleeping Beauty).

Performances will be at the Muncy High all school auditorium, 200 West Penn Street, Muncy. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students. Refreshments will also be available. For information and reserved seating call (570)-974-9474.
