PICTURE ROCKS – Finally the new granite and marble monument will be ready for dedication this Saturday at 10 a.m. in Picture Rocks on the corner of Main Street and Nunn Lane shortly after the South entrance on Main Street into the borough.

The board of directors has announced a formal ceremony inviting community residents to help honor the presence of the new Veterans Memorial Park. The monument is centered on top of the memorial and features a six ton waterfall.

A key note speaker is lined up as well as a rifle salute from the American Legion Post 35 in Hughesville. Also Hughesville High School students, Patrick Maggs and Jared Sones, who designed the waterfall memorial will be recognized for their work.

Leading to the monument are close to 300 bricks which were sold as a fundraiser with inscribed names of local veterans. The entire project took close to five years to complete according to Eugene Otterbein, Borough Manager. He also said that about $2,000 was raised through the First Community Foundation Partnership’s ‘Raise the Region’ campaign.

The waterfall was the biggest expense and various fundraisers such as a Poker Run helped to pay for it at a cost of $36,000. Otterbein said that there are a great deal of individuals and businesses to thank for their financial support.
