I want to congratulate Christopher McKibben, who is Chief of Police for Muncy Township. He was presented an award from the American Red Cross on Friday morning at the Genetti for their annual Heroes Breakfast. Chris made a harrowing chase and stopped a kidnapper from seriously harming a young woman with a knife in front of her workplace near the Lycoming Mall. His “heroic actions” saved her just in time.

June is National Get Outdoors Month, so go and hit those trails and parks. The best way to develop an appreciation for our natural resources is to spend time experiencing the outdoors and nature. Camping is always fun, but if you’ve never done it before, you can try it through the First Time Camper program. Just inquire at Gander Mountain. For a nominal fee you can get supplies for two nights to camp at one of 7 state parks in Pennsylvania. And what better time to try than June 22, during the Great American Backyard Campout, an initiative of the National Wildlife Federation. I am looking forward to our camping trip to Little Pine State Park during that time.

Muncy events

The Muncy Garden Club will meet at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, June 13 at the St. James Parrish Hall 215 South Main St. Muncy. Members will carpool from the Parrish Hall to Elimsport for a special garden tour of Katie Moser’s Castle. Refreshments provided by Hostesses Thelma George and Saundra Schmidt. Anyone interested in joining the Muncy Garden Club is encouraged to attend.

Friday, June 14 for Flag Day, a restored Concord Stagecoach will be on display at the Muncy Post Office from 8 to 3. Stop by for photos and refreshments. The first one was built in 1828.

June 15 Muncy Valley Hospital Lawn Party. There will be entertainment, a silent art auction, food court, children’s activities, raffle drawing, and more.

June 15 Strawberry Social at Millville Valley Grange # 52 on State Street Millville, Noon to 6 p.m. Several strawberry dishes & sandwiches available. Proceeds benefit Katys Church’s new concession stand. Info 764-2412
