Montgomery locals
More than ever this past week, I have had the privilege of talking to many of our Luminary readers. As I sit down to write this column each weekend, I endeavor to balance information about area events with some of my own personal experiences. I also aim to share a quick inspirational thought or pose a question to make you approach your upcoming week in a different way.
I would like to thank those of you who read this column for your support and encouragement. I have enjoyed the opportunity to flex my writing muscles again. It is difficult to believe that I have been hosting this column for nearly one year. It has been a nice way to transition into moving back to the hometown and surrounding area that I grew up loving. Thanks to everyone who has welcomed me back to a home made up of much more than simply four walls and a roof.
The Montgomery Area Historical Society recently changed its window display. Betsy Ross, still in her spinning wheel rocking chair, has been removed from the window at the Adam Room and is now inside the museum beneath the Montgomery Area Public Library. The window now boasts feature photos of Montgomery’s favorite summer activities. Check out the current display of baseball and parade photos.
A reminder to parents of school age children that the Montgomery Area School District will begin its 2013-2014 school year on Monday, August 26. Please keep in mind that the entire district will open its doors at 8:00 a.m. This is a new start time for middle and high school students.
Revitalize Montgomery continues to work to beautify our community. They are to be commended on their efforts. The committee continues to urge community members to attend their meetings as well as take part in their various projects. Stay tuned for the announcement of the next meeting.
Also, take a moment to visit the Montgomery Borough website (www.montgomeryborough.org). On the site you will find interesting information about the history of our town as well as news concerning the Watershed project and Revitalization project.
