Back to School Screening Day Offered at Susquehanna Health’s LifeCenter from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 8. Send your child back to school on the right foot by taking advantage of a variety of fun activities, safety tips and free health screenings. Pick up tips on safely walking to school, encountering animals, proper posture for sports activities and carrying backpacks as well as food safety and easy lunch ideas. Free screenings include body mass index (BMI), hearing, height and weight, spinal (measuring muscle tension) and vision. Free child identification DNA test kits will also be available. Workshops on Vision and School Success on Thursday, Ausgust 8, 6 to 7 p.m. with Dr. Marcus Myers, O.D. at the Vision & Learning Center, 112 South Main Street, Muncy. He reports that as many as 25% of children in any classroom have vision problems that keep them from attaining their highest level of success. These workshops will help identify children who may have vision problems that effect reading and learning.
Don’t miss this! Saturday, August 10 Benefit Walk and 5K at Kiess Park in Muncy. Making A Differenc in 2 Seconds or Less is an effort to raise money for this local organization led by a Hughesville native to provide a future for children and families in Zimbabwe, Africa by giving them sustainable food and water and how to grow their own food. The team will be available that day to share their story and most recent trip there! Registration will be from 9 to 10 a.m.
Kids Day at U.J. Patrizio Pool in Muncy, Sat. Aug. 10 from 1 to 7 p.m. Look for the moon bounce obstacle course. Free admission for all and free hot dogs for kids 12 and under. Rain date Aug. 11.
OUTDOOR RECREATION IN PA. Play in the Water on Saturday, August 10, 10-11 a.m. at the Montour Preserve. Explore the world of a stream. Turn over rocks and look along sticks as we explore riffles and pools in search of stream life. This program is for kids of all ages. Come prepared to wade in the water.
Women In the Outdoors program, Saturday, Aug. 17 at North Mountain Sportsmen’s Club near Muncy Valley. Registration from 8 to 9 a.m. with classes starting at 9 a.m. in kayaking, geo-caching, nature photography, shotgun and rifle shooting, Cowboy Action, basket weaving, native plant identification, pistol familiarization, and Dutch Oven cooking.
