Montgomery locals May 21

By Staff | May 20, 2014

The rain came and, thankfully, went just in time for the 2014 Montgomery High School Junior/Senior prom. The event was held at the sports complex and the theme was “Enchanted Forest”. Congratulations to the Junior class advisor, Ms. Nina Green, and the prom committee on a beautiful evening. Kaylie Harer and Nick Buckle were named queen and king.

The Montgomery Scout troop spent their Saturday morning preparing area cemeteries for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. Special thanks to all of the boys and parents who contributed.

The Montgomery Borough held their town yard sales this past weekend. It was great to see some extra traffic in town and so many families participating in the event.

Scott Sagar, Curator of Collections at the Taber Museum and Lycoming County Historical Society, gave a presentation on “Caring for Collections” at the Montgomery Area Historical Society’s Adam Room on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. He gave an overview of the techniques and procedures for properly cataloging, handling, storing, and exhibiting artifacts of many different types, including archival material, textiles, glass, metal and wooden objects, and archaeological items. Topics covered included when it is most important to wear gloves, what the best environment is for artifacts, and how to deal with pests (mostly of the animal variety). Scott has been the Curator at LCHS for 12 years.

You are cordially invited to an open house event at the Stone Church on the grounds of the former Allenwood Federal Prison Camp on Saturday, May 24. The cemetery and church will be open for visitors from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The Montgomery Area Historical Society will have displays inside the church. Alvira books and maps along with copies of the Surrender DVD will be available for purchase. Light refreshments will be provided.

Enjoy the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. While attending picnics and celebrating a day off of work and school, please be sure to remember the true meaning of the day.

Take note that the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Co. will hold its annual carnival June 16 to 21.
