Montgomery Locals
More often than not, I write this column from a teaching perspective. Being that it is my profession, I enjoy being able to inform the tri-town readership on school happenings. The most important aspect of this job to me is having the opportunity to highlight and celebrate the positives of the youth in our community. Too often our news is flooded with the negatives of today’s youth.
I wanted to take the opportunity to congratulate the seniors of the 2014 graduating class of Montgomery High School. Many of these seniors have already been accepted into colleges or have been recruited by the military. There are others who have already secured jobs in the work force. Please join me in celebrating the accomplishments of so many of the youth in the tri-town area.
It was reported that over 20 excited kids attended the Black Hole Fishing Derby last weekend catching trout in our local stream.
If you are connected to any senior graduating from the Montgomery Area High School, please mark your calendars for the following dates:
Awards Night will be Thursday, June 5 at 7 p.m. and Graduation will be Friday, June 6 at 7 p.m. Both events are held at the Complex by the football field. Parents, the last student day is a half-day on Friday, June 6.
The Montgomery Footsteps Food Bank is looking for people to step forward and offer an hour of service for the “Feeding the Kids” program for the months of June and July. The food part is taken care of. Jen, from the program, is looking for people to work with the kids for an hour after they eat. If you have a talent, or interest, or life lesson that you would like to share with the kids, this is a call for volunteers. It could be a safety program, music lesson, nature study, poetry writing, painting, or crafting. Jen would love to hear from you! Her email is jenn5200@ymail.com
June 14 is the Second Saturday event at the Heritage Park in Montgomery behind the Library from 11-4. Look for vendors, live music and good food. More vendor space is available on Main Street.
