A tribute to Civil War soldiers
Civil War soldiers interred at Old Lairdsville Cemetery will be honored on Monday, June 16. The evening will be hosted by the East Lycoming Historical Society at St. Mark’s Church in Lairdsville. Among the forty participates will be a bagpiper, rein-actors, choir, enumerators and a flag detachment. Names of soldiers called with a bell toll for each will include Bartlow, Houseknecht, Phillips, Poust, Savidge, Slonaker, Starr and Trainer. In costume, Betsy Ross and George Washington will make an appearance as a remembrance of Flag Day.
The public is invited to any and all events beginning with a picnic at 6:30, bring dish to pass. Robert Webster will present the local history award to a deserving Hughesville High School senior after which the group will move to the nearby cemetery. Lawn chairs are suggested.
In case of rain, all events will be held in the handicap accessible church basement.
