Hughesville Locals Aug. 13
Please don’t miss the last item in this week’s list of events — you’ll have a wonderful time! Celebrate the last weekend of summer at the Christopher T. Secules Memorial Scholarship Event.
Anyone who was absent from last Friday’s wonderful concert of Celtic music cannot comprehend what a great program that was presented! The Martin family from Newmanstown, PA put on a delightful program of mostly instrumental music with some lovely vocal harmony and a proficient display of Irish step dancing. The next time you have an opportunity to hear and see this group, I highly recommend that you get your tickets early.
Have you had any luck seeing meteors? We are at the peak time for the annual Perseid Meteor shower, so take advantage of the clear night sky, find a spot where the moonlight is shadowed, and scan the sky. You may have the good luck to see one or more shooting stars. With the Super moon just past full, our night skies have been giving us plenty to observe.
In addition to the HHS Spartan Marching Band, fall athletes are beginning full practices and getting themselves ready for the competitive season. If you are a senior citizen, remember that the school district has passes available that will give you admission to most events, so check with the district office at the west end of the high school building. The students really look forward to showing their skills and abilities, and they enjoy having a large crowd in attendance cheering them on to do their best.

Saturday, Aug. 23, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Christopher T. Secules Memorial Scholarship event, held at the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department Social Hall, South Railroad Street. This is one of the best events Hughesville will have this fall! A great meal will be catered by Springman’s Country Store, there will be some really fine live entertainment, and a fantastic assortment of items and themed baskets that will be part of an auction. Meal tickets will be available at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 120 South Main Street through Friday, August 15. You may also choose to attend to take advantage of the auction, without having the meal. This is not only a great way to get some phenomenal gift items, but also an opportunity to support the scholarship fund in memory of one of Hughesville High School’s top-notch graduates.
