Montgomery Locals Aug. 20

By Staff | Aug 19, 2014

This week marks the official start of the 2014-15 school year for the majority of area teachers. Montgomery families can find homeroom lists posted on the multi purpose room doors and high school students can arrange schedule changes with the guidance department. Please start to be on the lookout for school busses. The safety of our children is a responsibility that we all must adopt.

Back to school shopping not yet complete? I found some tremendous sales at the mall and also took advantage of Back to School clothing sales. There are online coupons available for many of the stores. Watch for more of these special offers as your children begin to bring home classroom supply lists.

The Montgomery Marching Band and cheerleaders represented the school in the Grand Slam Little League parade this past week. I am someone who tends to avoid the traffic and congestion brought on by the Little League World Series, but it truly is an exciting event close to home.

Consider joining the Montgomery Historical Society. The group is very active in the Montgomery borough and surrounding area and has recently rekindled their newsletter mailings. In the hopes of enticing participation, I will be providing a fun fact from the society over the next few columns.

Did you know that Washington Township was established in 1785 and named for George Washington?

Take a moment to visit the Montgomery Borough website (www.montgomeryborough.org). On the site you will find interesting information about the history of our town as well as news concerning the Watershed project and Revitalization project.
