It’s been a sort of upside down summer. Now that we are in the final weeks before autumn. we seem to be getting July weather. I guess this will help me be more welcoming toward the shortening days and anticipation of frosty mornings. It is cruel though, that my pool water has chilled down so much that it is hard to stay in the water for as long as I would like!

Have you noticed the recent ads and articles which encourage everyone to get organized? I’m still trying to get a good start on those projects that I promised myself would get done over the summer, so I can see that by the time I can think about getting organized, it will be time to have the Christmas shopping done and the house decorated. Oh, well, there’s always next year.

Do you have your calendar arranged for the many events coming up in Hughesville? The second weekend of September seems to be the prime choice for many area organizations to hold annual celebrations and fund-raisers. The East Lycoming Historical Society and Trinity Lutheran Church will be having fundraisers with lots of sundry items for purchase at absolute minimum prices. Both are located on South Main Street.

The annual Rotary Balloonfest at the Lycoming County Fairground, Hughesville, and the Pennsylvania Bowhunters Festival in Forksville are also coming up, so there will be many ways to entertain yourself over the next few weeks.

Hoorah for the HHS Spartan football team and the marching band for their great opener on Friday in Beaver Springs! The team posted a solid victory over East Juniata High School, and the band looked and sounded great! Be sure to attend one or more games to see these student athletes and musicians. Of course, there are also good things happening for Spartan Tennis and Soccer, so check the schedules and go out and enjoy.

September is Library Card Sign-up Month at the Hughesville Area Public Library, so it’s a good time to get a library card or to make it is current and in good standing.

Friday & Saturday, Sept. 12 & 13, 8 a.m. Annual Fundraiser at Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 South Main Street. Household wares, clothing, small appliances, and sundry goods at bargain rates. Proceeds benefit community outreach and benevolent work of the church.

Saturdays, Sept. 13 & 27, 1 to 3 p.m. Fiber Fillies needlecraft guild session, East Lycoming Historical Society museum, 66 South Main Street.
