How about that HHS Spartan football team! What a great start to the season. Two very solid victories are a testament to the players’ focus and teamwork. The football team is not the only group of Spartans who are having a great athletic season. The Spartan Girls’ Tennis team has won six of their seven matches and are a real powerhouse in the conference. The Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer teams have also posted wins and it is very early in the season. Whenever you can, head for the great athletic facilities our school district has developed and cheer for the Spartans.

I hope I won’t hear anyone say they have nothing to do this weekend! There are so many events scheduled for September 13 and 14 that I don’t know if it’s possible to squeeze them all in. The annual Rotary Balloonfest will give everyone a chance to enjoy the flying demonstrations by aviators and balloonists, plus many great entertainers, vendors, and of course food items.

Several local non-profit and charitable entities are working for the benefit of people in our local area and world-wide. There’s a Pig Roast at the local Moose Lodge to benefit a local military family.

East Lycoming Historical Society will offer a diverse array of gently-used items to help raise funds for the Museum and local educational efforts. Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church has its 13th annual fund-raiser to benefit a variety of local and international aid organizations. Hughesville Friends Church is holding a block party with entertainment, games, food, and a clothing give-away. The Annual Fall Hymn-Sing at Old Immanuel Church will be this weekend also, so be sure to get your list of destinations ready and have a great time.
