Hughesville Locals Oct. 15

By Staff | Oct 14, 2014

What a gorgeous time of year! We took advantage of last weekend’s sunshine and cool temperatures and made our first visit to Rider Park. This gem of a public access area is nearby, but once you start up a trail you feel like you are far off in the wilds. We chose the Katy Jane Trail, which includes two stunning vistas, overlooking the Loyalsock Creek valley with the long line of Bald Eagle Ridge in the distance, and North Mountain visible to the east. If you haven’t experienced this escape into nature, I highly recommend it.

Congratulations to Susquehanna Sportswear on their move to larger quarters near the Main and Water Streets intersection! It’s great to see a local business that is growing and thriving. Also, a Sunset Ice Cream and hoagies establishment has just opened in the adjoining section of the building. Be sure to visit soon!

The PA Mountain Laurel Decorative Painters, a local affiliated chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters, have provided unique items for the display case near the main circulation desk at the Hughesville Library. Set aside a few minutes to enjoy this collection and learn more about this group of talented painters from our area.

I’m sure you have seen some of the programs or books that are currently commemorating the First World War. It has been a full century since the beginning of that brutal, devastating war that was hoped would convince the world that armed conflict was not the answer to diplomatic disagreement.
