Hughesville Locals April 1, 2015
Happy April Fool’s Day! I’m never sure if I should believe anything I’m told when this day rolls around. Of course, Mother Nature is not averse to giving us weather that seems like a joke. How about that snow last Friday night? I was very glad that the streets and walks were warmed up enough that none of the snow accumulated to make problems. Any bets on whether we are completely out of the woods yet?
Congratulations to the cast, crew, and pit musicians who presented three great performances of “Damn Yankees” at HHS last weekend! This was a wonderful example of the talent and capabilities of students who work together to achieve a goal. The students will be performing one of the numbers from the show at the annual “Ray of Light” Award show on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport.
It’s Holy Week and many of the local churches are having special services through the rest of this week. Check with the office at your favorite church for service schedules for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, and Easter Sunday. The East Lycoming Ministerium will present the annual Good Friday service “The Seven Last Words of Christ”. This year’s service will be hosted by Christ United Methodist Church. The service lasts for three hours, but people may attend for any portion (or all) of the service. Each segment is approximately 25 minutes long, featuring one of the seven utterances from the cross along with a message from one of the local pastors. It’s a very moving and thoughtful service, an important part of the journey into Easter. As one pastor recently stated, “It’s hard to celebrate the Resurrection if you haven’t been to the Tomb.” I hope everyone who celebrates Easter will make the complete journey.
The children who bundled up and enjoyed the Egg Hunt sponsored by the Hughesville Rotary Club got a good start on a collection of Easter treats! It was cold, but dry, for the annual fun event and was one example of the many benefits that Rotary provides to the community. Next on Rotary’s list is the annual E-cycle Event which gives you a chance to safely and inexpensively dispose of unwanted or broken electronic items.
Keep those bird feeders stocked and also watch for the many robins I’ve spotted around town. They are convinced that it is time for spring, so we can be optimistic!
