Montgomery Locals June 24, 2015
A belated, yet sincere thank you to all fathers and grandfathers. I trust you all had a terrific Father’s Day with your families.
The Montgomery Fireman’s Carnival had a successful run this past week. As always, one of the main attractions was the parade featuring area residents, organizations, and the Montgomery Marching Band.
Need an activity to spark the creative side of your children? Consider the various summer camps offered at Centered Earth in Montoursville. My son will be attending a pottery camp this coming week and has enjoyed previous camps at the location. All area school children are encouraged to attend. The Centered Earth website offers a list of courses for the summer months.
“Summer Alive” had a successful second week. All camp organizers are grateful for the help and contributions from businesses, community and teen volunteers. Please contact Pastor Dietrich if you are interested in helping with this worthwhile summer program designed for our kids’ wellness and education. Aide is still needed with food preparation and the signing in/out process. Notes are also being taken in order to improve future camps.
“Revitalize Montgomery” continues its busy schedule this summer. If interested, meetings are held twice each month. The first Wednesday of the month is an evening meeting at “Tickle’s Music” Store beginning at 7:00 p.m. The third Wednesday is a 10:00 a.m. meeting at “Valley Rehab” on Main Street. The group is working on partnering with Susquehanna Greenway and DCNR to lay out plans for a possible walking and bicycle trail along the river.
Each Second Saturday event is on Main Street from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A reminder that there is no fee to set up a stand to advertise your businesses, crafts, highlight your organizations, or share the mission of your churches. Participation is encouraged.
Free summer music concerts are being held in Montgomery Park on the last Thursday of each month through September. Concert times are 7:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m. There is a vendor’s fee to set up stands. There is no fee for non-profit stands.
This is the last of the fresh strawberry season so the local Montgomery stands still have some strawberries left for the picking. The wet, rainy weather is bringing them to an end.
Please note that the Montgomery Area Senior Citizens will not meet during the month of July.
Feel free to contact me to post Bible School dates as well as any other summer events happening in and around our community.
