Hughesville Locals July 1, 2015
July has arrived and I haven’t had nearly enough warm weather! This month always seems that it will be a long stretch of hot days with lots of pool time and leisure activity. I hope I can squeeze as much “summer” out of these coming weeks as possible. We always seem to have so many home improvement projects underway that we forget to just relax and enjoy the season.
I am so grateful for the rainfall we’ve had, but it seems like we could use a few days without precipitation. My garden is nearly to the saturation point! The plants all look like they are anxious for some uninterrupted sunshine. The local cornfields are certainly much more than “knee-high” in time for the Fourth of July. My untrained eye is anticipating a bumper crop for most produce in our area, although we may see higher prices for most fresh foods over the next few months as the effects of the California drought become apparent. As always, it’s too bad that we can’t send them some of our extra rain. And it looks like more rainfall is expected this week and the holiday weekend with possible showers.
The coming weekend will be busy with people traveling in all directions to spend the Independence Day holiday on the water, in the woods, visiting family, or just firing up the grill in the back yard. Please make sure that you observe good safety practices in all your activities. I’m sure that the local emergency responders would like to have an uneventful weekend!
