Muncy locals July 15, 2015

By Staff | Jul 20, 2015

Since 1997 Friday night youth activity nights have been provided for local teens and youth at the Vineyard Activity Center in Muncy. The program is designed for youth ages 12 through 19 still in high school and is run by some wonderful dedicated volunteers.

Located at 99 Sherman Street they are getting ready for some big events this month including a cruise-in car show in Williamsport on August 9th. They will be leaving Burger King on Maynard Street around 12:30 p.m. and the end of the run will be at the Vineyard Activity Center sometime around close to 4 p.m. Refreshments, sandwiches and beverages will be served there and all the proceeds will go to the Activity Center. So stop by around 3 and you will be able to view some classy cars coming into Muncy.

The summer months are special for the kids at the Center because they can work on projects and activities while they are there. One of their favorite actvities is their annual “lock-in” which will take place August 14 & 15. The volunteers and staff should get a big hand for providing their time, especially staying up all night with the kids while they work on various worthwhile activities at the center. One year they painted the interior of the building. They also make food, play basketball and football, billiards, air hockey and card games.

The Center is available for parties, family gatherings, yard sales, or any group activity that you want to organize. Just call them at 546-0633 and leave a message if you are interested. They will take a donation for the rental.

These lazy days of summer are also good for reading and the Muncy Public Library informed us they have been “bustling with activity this summer.” Director Victoria-Thompson Hess said that new materials are arriving every week, and the summer reading program “Every Hero Has a Story” is in the works. She also said MOPAR Muscle of Central PA has donated several fiction and non-fiction “car themed” books for the children’s collection. Other new titles include some new adult fiction by well known authors such as Patterson, Mary Higgins Clark, Brad Taylor and other bestsellers. With these sultry rainy, humid days, a good book sounds like the perfect way to relax.
