Muncy Locals Sept. 16, 2015
The Muncy Valley Hospital Auxiliary is inviting everyone to stop by on Monday, September 21st from 11 to 3 to view their showcase of fundraisers for the year. Feautured will be displays of their many supported projects from the recent Repasz Band to the teddy bears they make for the residents of the skilled nursing center and the annual Christmas tea, just to name a few. They are always looking for new members, so stop by and enjoy some refreshments as well.
September is National Childhood Obesity Month and the American Heart Association has asked us to help our kids and grandkids get a healthy start this school year. They are offering a 4 week challenge course online to make some gradual changes to help make our hearts stronger. Go to www.heart.org/healthierkids. You will find some resources, videos and weekly tips throughout the month such as kid-friendly recipes, heart healthy foods under $1, dietary recommendations, activities to do, tips for picky eaters, and I really like Harry’s Healthy Garden app.
While we’re on the subject of food, students from the Pennsylvania College of Technology’s catering course will offer some cooking demonstrations with free samples at the Williamsport Growers Market’s annual “Customer Appreciation Day” this Saturday morning on Sept. 19.
They will prepare a variety of recipes using fresh, local ingredients donated by the market’s vendors. Beginning at 8 a.m they will serve samples until they run out, so get there early. The Williamsport Growers Market is open every Saturday in the parking lot between Hepburn Street, Pine Street and Little League Boulevard. Hours through the end of November are 8 to 1. Seasonal products now available include vegetables, fruits, meats, eggs, dairy products, baked goods, coffee, cooking oils, dog biscuits, soils, pottery, bags and covers, children’s clothing, yarns and honey.
What a perfect September week!
