Hughesville Locals Oct. 14, 2015
Foggy mornings and sunny afternoons with brilliant blue skies are hallmarks of a Pennsylvania October. When the sun illuminates the colors of the maple, oak, and beech trees seem almost unreal in intensity. Cornfields around the valley are being harvested, opening up vistas that we haven’t seen for a couple of months. This year’s corn grew so tall that some back roads were virtual tunnels! I hope we can enjoy several more weeks of this glorious autumn weather!
Kaitlin Peterman returned from Renovo this past weekend after competing for queen in the annual Flaming Foliage Festival. She is a member of the National Honor Society, student council, FBLA, and plays many soccer and basketball. She hopes to become an engineer after graduation.
Hughesville has had some improvements over the summer with road paving and tree trimming that make things look great. The new clock on the Woodlands Bank building is a nice finishing touch. I am one of those who remembers when there was a clock on the corner of that building, although I seem to remember one that was there after the modernization of the 1960’s. Improvements like this project help us all look good. Let’s keep looking for ways we can show our pride in our community.
The Veterans Memorial Park of Picture Rocks is teaming up with Boscov’s for their “Friends Helping Friends” fundraiser. When you purchase a discount pass and shop there on Tuesday, Oct. 20, you will receive a discount up to 25 percent on select purchases, and have a chance to win a prize.
October is always a busy month and my calendar is looking quite ?booked? for the rest of the month. As you do your shopping for meals or parties in your home, please remember that Son Light House always needs donations of breakfast cereal. An extra box won’t make a big difference in your grocery bill, but will mean so much to those who are in need.
