Rishel Factory fire meeting topic at ELHS
HUGHESVILLE – Fifty years ago this month, one of the largest blazes in Hughesville destroyed the Rishel Furniture Factory on South Third Street. Media reports immediately following the fire talked of rebuilding. Instead workers were invited to transfer to a company site in Williamsport. One of the town’s largest employers was no more.
The Rishel fire will be the topic of the upcoming meeting of the East Lycoming Historical Society. The public is welcome to attend on Monday, November 16th at 7 p.m. in the social hall of Trinity Lutheran Church, corner Main and Academy Streets, Hughesville.
Speaker Garman Zehner, a nearby resident at the time of the fire, will share photos of the blaze on screen. Following the presentation, audience members will be encouraged to share their memories.
