Montgomery Locals Dec. 9, 2015
It has been a very busy week at the school with field trips and the kick off of winter sports. I am throwing in some on-line shopping when I can in the hopes of finishing up my holiday “gift-getting”. I am also planning to check out some movies in the upcoming weeks and will share any that I think are worth your time. I did enjoy NBC’s production of “The Wiz Live” this past week. Out of the three live shows they have done, this has been my favorite. Many of my students watched the show and it was interesting to critique in class the next day.
A special thank you to Surplus Outlet and Faxon Lanes for helping the Montgomery PRIDE team create an incredible incentive for our students on Monday. The PRIDE team works to generate good citizenship among our students as well as encouraging academics. Students from 7th and 11th grades were treated to bowling and snacks due to the generosity of Surplus Outlet and Faxon Lanes. These two grade levels were the winners of a junior high and high school competition over the past nine weeks.
Thank you to the Jersey Shore Lioness Club for welcoming some of our vocal and theatre students last Tuesday evening. It was great to take part in your holiday celebration.
Congratulations to Jacob Chamberlin for his second place finish and Brandon Daldo for his fifth place finish at the DKI wrestling tournament in Bloomsburg. The boys made a strong showing to kick off their season.
The Winter Sports Red Raider Night was held this past Wednesday evening. Announcer Gary “Yogi” Yocum welcomed all of the winter athletes and wished them well in their upcoming seasons. Good luck to all student athletes and coaches.
The Montgomery High School Broadcasting class travelled to the WNEP studio this past Thursday. They toured the studio, watched a live broadcast and appeared in the back year with Tom Clark during his weather forecast. They were also able to practice some of their reporting techniques as well as receive some helpful hints for behind the camera work.
On December 12, 2015 the Montgomery Area Historical Society will once again host a Community Christmas Service at Christ Lutheran “Stone Church” on the grounds of the former Allenwood Federal Prison Camp. All are invited to the open house beginning at 2:00 p.m. and the church service that will begin at 3:00 p.m. Weather permitting visitors may wander through the cemetery and reminisce over displays by the Historical Society in the church.
Alumni from the Montgomery “Love and Joy” music ensemble will be bringing back their solemn Vespers service on December 26 at 7:00pm at the Brick Church. Any interested alumni from this era should contact Christina Richardson if you are interested in participating. Doors will open to the public audience at 6:30pm.
Please consider following @MASDnews on Twitter or via our YouTube channel, The Raider Tube. Both of these digital mediums are created and maintained by the high school Broadcasting class. The intention is to help share Montgomery news and events with our community if they are unable to attend an event.
