Muncy Locals Dec. 16, 2015
A wonderful revelation came to me on Saturday when I discovered that Michaels craft store here in Pennsdale/Muncy area has a wide variety of classes for both adults and kids, and during every season. On Saturday, my granddaughter and I made a coaster out of Perler beads, and I believe it is the last one for the year. However, starting in January you can go to their website and choose from a variety of classes such as paper crafting, jewelry making, floral design, drawing & painting, knitting, crocheting, and cake decorating. They also have a list at the store.
The youth group at Church of the Resurrection in Muncy will be holding their annual Christmas caroling event on Tuesday night, December 22. All are welcome to come out and hear them or join them for a fun night of singing. They will be meeting at the Rectory parking lot at 6 p.m.
Congratulations to Peyton Daley who was chosen as student of the first quarter from Muncy High School at the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce.
Save your gently used coats, hats, gloves and winter wear as many churches and the Son-Light House are collecting them. Also this Saturday is the giveaway for Toys 4 Tots, held on Railroad Street in Hughesville. Today is the last day the Marine Corp volunteers will be collecting the bins.
This time of year I receive several releases on healthy eating for the holidays. Easier said than done, I say. But as the years creep upon me I do try to take the good advice. To my dismay, the United Health Foundation reports that Pennsylvania ranks 29th overall in health. One in 4 adults are physically inactive compared with the national average of 22.6 percent. We struggle with air pollution, rising drug deaths, obesity, diabetes and poverty. However, they say our strength is with immunizations – we are the fifth highest in vaccines, probably because the affordability and the coverage is easier to obtain than other states. And we also have a low rate of infectious diseases, plus the percentage of smokers is dropping.
