Ferndale Park topic at next watershed meeting
The account of Ferndale Park, formerly located near the western boundary of Moreland Township, will be the topic for the upcoming meeting of the Muncy Creek Watershed Association to be held on Thursday, February 11 at 7 p.m. in the community room of the Hughesville Area Public Library.
The park’s hey-day began to wane in the 1920’s after several decades of being a favorite recreation spot for reunions, Sunday school picnics and summer holiday celebrations.
Hundreds flocked to the cool shady retreat along Muncy Creek’s winding waterway. Guests could fish, swim, boat, dance in the pavilion and vacation in rented cabins.
The speaker is Moreland Township native Carol Sones Shetler, who in 2013, chronicled the story for the Township’s bicentennial. Used as visuals will be photos supplied by June Grube and creek mappings salvaged by Chalmer VanHorn.
The public is invited to attend.
