With all the nice weather we had over the weekend, 60 like temperatures in fact, it wasn’t too soon to start thinking about gardening. The Lycoming County Master Gardeners have some programs lined up to help us. A weeding program is scheduled for this Saturday and three informational programs are scheduled in March beginning with square foot gardening by making the most of small spaces.

On Sat. Mar. 19 Hughesville resident and Master Gardener Helen Grosso along with Sandra Murray will be giving tips on how to start plants from seed using containers you may already have in your home. Helen is very resourceful and I have seen her yard. She surely has a green thumb!

On Monday March 21st you can register for a session on soil nutrition, the basis for a successful garden. All programs are at the Lysock View Complex on County Farm Road, or you can call 570-433-3040 for more information or to reserve a spot.

The Muncy Garden club is also planning activities for 2016 and will be announcing some programs and tours in March. The Hughesville Garden Club will be hosting a program on herbs on Monday, Mar. 14 with guest speaker, Louise Fulmer from Pennsdale who is also a Master Gardener.

Raise the Region will soon be here, Wednesday, March 9, and a good non-profit to support is the Son-Light House in Muncy. They are now averaging close to 600 households each month that receive food and assistance. According to volunteers, 149 new households were added in 2015 which is a 17 percent increase from the previous year. They distribute food, clothing and some furniture serving those who live in the eastern part of Lycoming County.

Thurs. Feb. 25 at 7:00 p.m. The Susquehanna Civil War Roundtable will open its 2016 season with its annual Show and Tell at the the Degenstein Library, 40 S. 5th St. Sunbury. Feel free to bring your favorite Civil War artifact, book or story to share–participation is encouraged but not required! All are welcome to attend. Fri. Feb. 26 Dive-In Movies at the ELYMCA starting at 6 p.m. for movie feature “Home”. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Sign up at the front desk, 50 Fitness Drive, Muncy.

Weds. Mar. 2 Read Across America Day celebrated at Muncy Public Library from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Louise Fulmer will once again be the guest reader. Each child who attends will receive a new book to keep, courtesy of CLUST Retired and the Muncy Public Library. Call 570-546-5014 to register.
