Muncy Locals Mar. 2, 2016
Finally it is March and what a month for proclamations. Let’s start with National Nutrition Month and would you believe there is a supportive initiative out there to not eat meat during the month of March! Research points to this as helping to save lives. It is presented by “Girls Gone Green” and you can take the 31 day challenge by going to www.nomeatmarch.com. Personally, my health is better with more plant based foods in my diet.
This month is also Women’s History month and the Luminary would like to focus on some notable women who have made some historical pathways in our area. If you have someone in your ancestry that you would like to be recognized, please let us know.
The ELYMCA has been hosting dive in movies. The second one was held last Friday night at the pool. It is a fun family event, and they are getting some first rated movies. I did see parents having a hard time getting the kids out of the pool after the movie was over. Take note that they are now initiating their annual campaign, taking donations that help with these kids programs.
Girl Scout Week is also celebrated this month from March 6-12 starting with Girl Scout Sunday and ending with Girl Scout Sabbath/Shabbat on Saturday, and it always includes the Girl Scout Birthday on March 12. This day is a commemoration when founder Juliette Gordon
The Girl Scout Birthday on March 12 commemorates the day when Juliette Gordon officially registered the organization’s first 18 girl members in Savannah, Georgia in 1812. This year will mark the 104th birthday of Girl Scouts.
