Muncy Locals Mar. 30, 2016

By Staff | Mar 31, 2016

Congratulations to Suzanne Dively Smith and her pup Bobbi who volunteer their time in the therapeutic recreation department at the Skilled Nursing Center in Muncy. They were recently recognized as C.A.R.E. Volunteers and received an award for their compassion for the past 5 years totaling more than 1,000 hours from Susquehanna Health. Every week Suzanne and Bobbi visit with the residents and sometimes make special trips in a time of need.

The Penn State Co-op Extension office is organizing an “Everybody Walk Across PA” program and the theme this year is rail trails. Teams of up to 5 can register. It is free to participate and you can do it on your own time between April 4 and May 27. Each person must walk or exercise an equivalent of ten miles per week. Registration is due by April 3 and to register call Laurie Welch at 570-433-3040.

At last some relief is coming to Muncy property owners affected by Tropical Storm Lee in 2011. $500,000 has been awarded for those eligible announced Fran McJunkin from Muncy and deputy director of GIS and assessment for the county. She said the county has to implement its plan within 5 years.

We wrap up women’s History month with two more stories about county women who have made some significant strides in recording and mapping history here. If you are interested in knowing more about the history of women in Lycoming County, visit some of the archives at www.lycoming.edu/library/lcwhc.html which are stored in the Snowden Library at Lycoming College.
