Muncy Locals June 1, 2016
I am pleased to hear that the state is finally going to start a thruway project where Routes 11, 15 and 147 all connect in Northumberland County. Think of how often many of us have been caught in traffic jams in Shamokin Dam, especially en route to Harrisburg. However, the downside is that construction for this thirteen mile, $670 million project won’t be completed for another ten years.
Congratulations to the 68 students who graduated from Muncy High School Friday night, May 27. It turned out to be gorgeous weather after a brief rainstorm earlier in the evening. Eighteen of these remarkable students who are now young adults, were on the National Honor Society.
The parade was also a success, with many porch parties on Main and Penn Streets and the streets were filled with spectators who enjoyed much sunshine during this festive event. It looked like the entire town of Muncy came out for this wonderful yearly parade. I can’t remember a time when this parade was ever rained out since I became editor of The Luminary 8 years ago.
Another activity I enjoyed in Muncy over the long weekend was a visit to the Muncy Public Library. On Saturday the ‘Friends of the Library’ were having a used book sale to help raise funds for the library’s programs they have there, especially the children’s programs. For five dollars, I was able to fill an entire bag. I had my 5 year old granddaughter with me and she was quite content to have been able to choose from such a huge selection of children’s books. These Saturday sales are always held at the end of each month from 10 to 1. The next one is June 25th. And if you want to make a donation, there is always a drop box in the lobby from the back entrance to place books and movies.
