Muncy Locals May 25, 2016
I was made aware that the Muncy 4th Fridays this year are only going to be for the months of June, July and August with live music and plenty of activities for the whole family that includes free admission, contests, giveaways and more. The first one will be June 24th. This Friday is Muncy’s graduation starting at 7 p.m.
Members from the Muncy garden club were busy last week doing weeding and planting flowers around the pool, cemetery, library and the borough office. If you attend the alumni banquet this weekend, take note of the table arrangements, as they were also made by the club.
The East Lycoming YMCA is starting a new and exciting program this summer for kids in grades fifth through eighth, thanks to a grant from the First Community Foundation. The program is called “Youth and Government” and it’s free with adult advisors who will assist the students in some critical life building skills such as public speaking, research, communications, civic engagement and leadership training among others. This new program will start June 7th so register soon. If you are not a member of the Y, no problem, bring your student and receive a free day pass. The program will end August 23rd and will meet on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
The Muncy Historical Society held their quilt collecting seminar on Saturday with two highly professional speakers. It’s good to know that the two quilts I made will increase in value, and not only be an heirloom, but an artifact. And when you visit museums look for the quality of work on some of the antique quilts. I had the Messiah quilters from Clarkstown hand quilt the one I will enter into the Muncy Historical Society’s upcoming quilt show in July. If you want to make something, or finish a project, there is still time plenty of time to enter before the July 7, 8 and 9 deadline. Registration forms are at the museum or at www.MuncyHistoricalSociety.org.
Wherever you are on Memorial Day, pause for a minute at 3 p.m. for the National Moment of Remembrance to honor those who died while serving our country, and don’t forget the wonderful Muncy parade, a favorite tradition in our community.
