Take note of last week’s elder abuse awareness day celebrated on June 15. We receive so many unwanted calls, almost daily, and the top five telephone scams reported on YouGov survey are IRS scams, credit and loan scams, lottery and sweepstake scams, banking scams and automated message scams. Beware, we are continually being targeted! Protect your assets and never give out personal information over the phone unless it is initiated by you. I always ask for details in writing or to send something in the mail. I just noticed two emails sent this week to the Luminary asking for financial information. I deleted it right away after noting the email address as unrecognizable and definitely not a government or non-profit site. I still feel better paying my bills with checks and secured credit cards. This provides me a paper trail to track everything. If at anytime you suspect fraud, contact Adult Protective Services. Our Statewide Elder Abuse Hotline is 1-800-490-8505.

The Office of Aging through STEP, Inc. has some vouchers still available at the main office in Williamsport for fresh produce at participating local farmers’ markets. You can contact them at 1-800-346-3020 or (570) 326-0587.

The Lycoming County Fair books are out and the deadline to enter is Monday, June 27. Remember you can enter up to 24 entries for only two dollars. The Muncy Garden Club is maintaining the horticulture building and they are encouraging you to enter any of your garden plants or flowers. These articles will be received July 12 and 13 at the fairgrounds.

And don’t forget Muncy 4th Friday this Friday night. The committee has been working very hard to make the night very festive with clowns and balloons, live entertainment, over 70 vendors, giveaways, contests, the bounce house and lots more.
