Muncy Locals June 29, 2016

By Staff | Jun 29, 2016

It was a wonderful time Friday night in downtown Muncy. Lots of great entertainment and food. Muncy’s 4th Friday event was so well attendend that some of the vendors ran out of their wares. I missed out on the pizza and vanilla ice cream, but I was glad that I was able to purchase some home made pierogies before they were gone. The Muncy Field Hockey team was selling them as a fundraiser, and they were delicious.

Kathy Dincher ran out of her balloons but fortunately, husband George came with her and dressed up as Captain America. The younger children just loved him!

Also along the way was Steve Hyde, a professional magician who presented some magic tricks to young and old alike as many onlookers lined the streets sitting along the curbs. Music was great and several attendees brought chairs to enjoy a wide assortment of songs sung by vocalist Mallory Scoppa. I forgot to bring a food item for the bicycle raffle but many did remember. Congratulations goes to Mary Woodring from Muncy for winning a $400 gift certificate to Marty’s Bicycle Shop. Committee members are planning lots of surprises for July’s 4th Friday, so mark July 22 on your calendars.

Here is another interesting fact that came across my desk – Are homicides seasonal in Pennsylvania? According to the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts, there were 3,457 homicides in PA between 2011-2015, with the summer months of June and July “leading the pack.” Fotunately, homicide rates have declined since 2013. Lycoming county is at .55%. The lowest is .03 percent and the highest is 46 percent (Phila.)

Send us your reunions, as this is the perfect time for picnics and family gatherings. The Luminary will post them and in 25 years, they can become Peeks of the Past.
