Hughesville Locals July 27, 2016

By Staff | Jul 27, 2016

I am not ready for August. I know that I can look at a calendar at any time and see that there are only 31 days in July, but it seems that those days go by much faster than the 31 cold days of January. I need more time to soak up the summer heat, watch the sunset after dinner as my patio cools down, and savor the scents of garden foliage. I hope I will remember to treasure each day of August!

The Lycoming County Fair has ended for this year. The heat was a bit daunting at times, but it was still another success. Many of the attendees enjoyed the rides and food items despite the warm temperatures, and the 4-H exhibits and events were a great display of the talents of our local youth. It takes a lot of work from a lot of people to produce a successful fair and I hope you were able to enjoy it.

Congratulations to Dakota George, a Hughesville resident who was one of a select group of Penn College Engineering CAD Technology students who earned certification via the Certified SolidWorks Associate exam, a prominent industry certification test. Earning this certification will enhance his degree and demonstrates his high level of proficiency with the 3-D modeling, computer-aided software program.

Have you visited the Hughesville Area Public Library recently? There are programs and events on the schedule every week, so be sure to check it out! The staff has just release a schedule of new programs for August, September, and October that will be oriented toward families, especially those with young children. New on the lineup are: Busy Bee Art Club, geared for the littlest ones, ages 18 months to 3+, accompanied by a care-giver; All Together Saturday Storytime, a new family event: Wee Tales, for children as young as 12 months up to 3 years; and Kids Color, a relaxing winding-down activity for 8 to 12 year old kids to enjoy after school. Due to materials and space needs, all of these programs require registration, so please visit the library, or call (570)584-3762 for more information.

I have it on good authority that the GHBA (Greater Hughesville Business Association) is planning a Block Party for Friday August 19 in downtown Hughesville. Plans are still underway, but it sounds like something everyone will want to put on their calendars! Look for much more information in the next week or two.
