Hughesville Locals Aug. 3, 2016
The “Dog Days” of August are here, and it has seemed like they began early this year. We’ve had a long string of 90+ degree days that have only been relieved by the occasional thunderstorm, which cools things for a bit, but significantly increases the humidity level. I am glad for the rainfall, however, so I suppose I must tolerate the high humidity, if for no other reason than my fondness for vine-ripened tomatoes fresh from the garden. My eggplant seems to be growing much better this year than last, but the zucchini plants need to put on the brakes and let me catch up.
Have you visited the Lime Bluff Recreation Area lately? Hughesville is blessed to have this wonderful space for biking, walking, picnics, softball, playground, and Frisbee golf. Hats off to the dedicated volunteer authority that oversees the park! I have recently enjoyed the biking path, as well as the Frisbee golf course, and hope to have many more opportunities to spend time there. It is also convenient to ride a bicycle to the park by way of the access path that begins on East Lycoming School District property near the soccer and baseball fields south of Ashkar Elementary School. If you haven’t been there recently, I urge you to check it out!
Hughesville Area Public Library is looking for unique or interesting collections to display in the glass case near the circulation desk. The display case has held selections of books, model cars, teacups, dolls, and hand-painted items. If you have a collection that you would be willing to share for a month-long display, contact the staff at HAPL and choose a month.
