Montgomery Locals Aug. 3, 2106

By Staff | Aug 3, 2016

August is shaping up to be an eventful month in Montgomery. Although traditionally held in June, the carnival will be here and the fire company is using a different ride company this year. It should be interesting to see what types of new rides will be featured. It will also mark the first carnival since the new concession stand has been completed (although it was used during the fireworks).

Town children will be able to enjoy summer vacation during the entire month for the first time in decades. They won’t be hitting the books (or should I say “laptops”) until September due to renovating the building. Have fun during your extended summer break, students and teachers!

Birthday wishes are sent to Tony Harman, who will be another year older on August 3. Happy birthday to Danielle Heasley, who will be marking her special day on August 4.

Montgomery Events:

Fri. Aug. 5 A Red Cross blood drive will be held at the Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Company from noon to six.

Sat. Aug. 6 The Blueberry Festival will be held at St. John’s Lutheran (the Brick Church) from 3-7.

Week of August 8-13, the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Company is looking for volunteers for the dunk tank and to help clean up the carnival grounds. Volunteers will be given coupons for the concession stand. The Montgomery Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary is collecting donations of baked goods for the cake wheel and glassware for the dime pitch at the carnival. You can drop items off at the station or call for them to be picked up.

Sat. Aug. 15 the Firemen’s Parade will be held. Anyone is welcome to participate with a float, marching unit, a classic car, sports car, or a tractor. The parade will form at Weis’ and Hulsizer’s at 4:30 p.m. and begin at 5:30.

Sat. Aug. 15 is the deadline to reserve your seat to tour the battlefields of Gettysburg with The Montgomery Area Historical Society. The trip will be on Sat. Sept. 24. The fee must be paid in full when reserving your seat. For more information, call (570) 547-6738 and leave a message.
