Muncy Locals Aug. 17, 2016

By Staff | Aug 18, 2016

Saturday’s block party at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Clarkstown was well worth the visit. The food was good, especially the homemade pies. I bought a hand made bird house and raffles for the quilt that will be given out during the ‘Charity event’ coming in November. Believe it or not, it is coming soon and thoughts are ahead during these hot and humid days of August summer.

I also enjoyed the time at the fairgrounds, a two day event hosted by Meagan’s Box Foundation. The harness racing was fun to watch, the music was upbeat and I also won a stained glass angel in the basket raffle. Thanks Becky Fought for selling me the tickets! Meagan Murray and her family really put their heart and soul into this ‘August Fest’ that made it so enjoyable, despite the rain that came Saturday night.

Congratulations to little Max Frye, age 5, from Muncy for throwing out a first pitch at a Williamsport Crosscutters Game. Last Tuesday his photo was featured in the Sun-Gazette’s Talk of the Town.

PennDot sent a reminder that part of the bike path will be closed from the tunnel underneath I-180 at Indian Park to the I-180 overpass near Broad Street. So if you like to ride the path, which I like to do on occasion from the Park & Ride near Walmart, you will run into a snag for the next two weeks while they are working on an erosion control project.

Dr. Marcus Myers from Muncy has announced that he will run a free workshop at your location of choice to speak about undiagnosed vision problems in children. Call for more information and to schedule your group at 570-546-4885.

Representative Garth Everett posted the new changes underway on how we can buy beer, wine and spirits in Pennsylvania. He said this new law is considered the first step to privatizing the state’s liquor sales system and allows grocery stores with restaurant licenses to apply for permits to sell up to four bottles of wine. Approved grocery stores may have wine on their shelves as early as October, with direct shipment available much sooner. Some convenience stores will be able to sell six-packs if they have a restaurant license. This is expected to raise more than 150 million dollars for the state.

For those of you who like to read, the Lycoming County Bookmobile will be out of service for several weeks due to mechanical problems, so if you have some books from there, kindly drop them off at the closest library.

The Muncy Public Library would like to remind all of their summer readers that it is time to hand in your reading packets. Whether you read one book or 100 books, you will still get a prize bag! Be sure to stop in before Sat. Aug. 27th to claim your bags. Adult prize winners will be announced on August 30th.
