Muncy locals Sept. 7, 2016
There are lots and lots of activities this month, especially for seniors with a reminder to check out the senior expo on the 13th in Pennsdale. There you can find some volunteer opportunities, get your blood pressure checked, learn about estate planning, senior housing and lots more. Be sure to bring any unused subscriptions you might have hanging around in your medicine cabinets, especially pain killers so that they are disposed of properly. There is going to be a MedReturn box there at the County Sheriff’s table and document shredding provided by North Central Sight Services.
Labor Day weekend is upon us and the fall season of fairs and festivals has officially begun. September offers car shows, riverwalks, trails, and Patriot Day on the 11th. This is said to be the largest annual day of charitable engagement. Red Cross suggests that we give blood. Today the bloodmobile will be at the Masonic Lodge in Muncy. Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood, so regular donations are needed. Blood and platelet donors of all types are urged to give.
Another commemoration for 9/11 and a weekend of patriotism is an engaging history lesson at the Pennsylvania Military Musem. It is worth the 45 minute drive to Boalsburg to see a timeline of uniforms and equipment from the 18-21st centuries. There is also going to be a weapons demonstration and a battle dress and uniform show at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Several meetings are in the works to discuss the future of the proposed waste-to-energy plant that could possibly move into the old Sprout Waldron building in the Muncy Borough. Residents are speaking out and are encouraged to do research on Delta Therma Energy and see what the environmental outlook is really going to be like. Plans and discussions are in the works for anyone to get involved on either side of the pros or cons for this endeavor that claims it can turn sludge into electricity. So far to the best of my knowledge, no agreement has been made on this proposal.
