Muncy Locals Sept. 28, 2016

By Staff | Sep 28, 2016

I was sorry to hear that Oliver Sones passed away on August 31st. He and his wife Mary have been operating the Sones Farm and Home Museum since 2004 in Muncy. Oliver loved history and would happily welcome tours, guests, students, groups and organizations to the museum every year. He also loved riding in parades and had a collection of antique tractors and trucks. Oliver’s happy face will truly be missed.

Meagan Murray from”Meagan’s Box” Foundation is looking forward to Christmas and had a fundraiser Monday night at Wendy’s in Muncy where ten percent of all proceeds were donated from 5-8 p.m. to the Foundation. She never stops. She said the entire third floor of their home is now devoted to the Christmas presents that she plans on giving away this season to children in need. She also said to keep those gifts coming!

CELEBRATE FALL! There are lots of fall festivals approaching this time of year starting with the 35th annual Heritage Days this weekend in Turbotville. There will be a special program on Sunday at noon to note the death of 21 patriots who perished at Fort Freeland during the Revolutionary War. The Apple n Cheese festival is another favorite time in Canton and will feature some local art and great food. Both places will feature historic villages, displays, live entertainment and demonstrations on broom making, blacksmithing, and cider pressing plus lots more. Both of these festivals are worth attending. Be prepared for any kind of weather, however, as we approach more unpredictable weather patterns.

Robyn from Green Barn Berry Farm is ready now for hay rides and be sure to visit their poultry exhibit. The peeps are hatching! Stop in and see the eggs that are beginning to hatch, get a pumpkin, and visit with the animals.

The volunteers at the Muncy Township fire hall are getting ready for their hay rides too and the annual Pennsdale Haunted Barn. This is a big fundraiser for them plus a lot of energy and time go into making the creative costumes and hauntings that thrill spectators each year.
