Hughesville Locals Oct. 5, 2016

By Staff | Oct 5, 2016

October started off with some rainy weather, but it was a beneficial recharge for our streams and water table. Since the leaves are still mostly green, at least here in the valley, there shouldn’t be too much impact on the autumn foliage splendor.

Although the football team had a last minute loss to Bloomsburg on Friday evening, the Homecoming parade and coronation activities took place without rain. Congratulations to Autumn Avery, Homecoming Queen, and Megan Ryder, Homecoming Princess! All of the court members are wonderful representatives of the great student body at Hughesville High School. Also honored were this year’s inductees into the HHS Athletic Hall of Fame, Clyde Frantz ’67, Bill Babcock ’67, and Dan Smith ’72. Additionally, the HHS Spartan Marching Band provided entertainment with their regular marching exhibition pre-game, plus a selection of musical numbers at half-time. Bloomsburg’s band was unable to attend the game, so it was all Spartan sound.

Another Hughesville resident who is making us proud is Cynthia M. Wilt, who is a member of the Penn College surgical technology class of 2017. Surgical technologists make the operating room efficient while ensuring patient safety. The work demands attention to detail and procedures. They work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of surgical procedures. They prepare operating rooms, arrange equipment, and help doctors during surgeries. Penn College is preparing students to make a difference in the medical field.

Don’t forget that besides Varsity Football, the Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity Soccer, Girls’ Varsity Tennis, and Coed Varsity Golf teams all have competitive events this week and on into the month. Check your schedule and head over to the school athletic complex to cheer for the Spartans!
