Hughesville Locals Oct. 26, 2016
Happy Halloween! Just a few days are left in this month, and it’s time to make sure you have your treats ready for all the princesses, ghosts, ninjas, and superheroes that will be ringing your doorbell on Monday evening. I have spent a number of hours recently on my favorite part of this holiday – making costumes for young members of the family. I sometimes get a bit overwhelmed by the scale of the task I have taken on, but it all works out eventually. There are a few late nights at the sewing machine still to come, I’m sure.
Last weekend’s rainfall became much more torrential than most of us were expecting and many communities in our area were hard hit with flash flooding. I have seen several reports of damage from the sudden rise of tributaries to the Lycoming, Loyalsock, and Muncy Creeks, and hope that we will not see this kind of weather event again. I do believe, however, that intense storms like this are one of the effects of the climate change we are experiencing. I hope that those who own property near any waterway can find ways to enjoy the benefits of a place by the water without endangering themselves or their families.
Since October is drawing to a close, we know it is time for the annual St. Nick’s Novelties Craft Show at Hughesville High School! This is one of the best local displays of wonderful handcrafted goods and products that I have been to, and provides a great deal of financial support for the East Lycoming Soccer Association. It’s time to get serious about Christmas shopping and this is the perfect place to find those unique, thoughtful gifts.
Congratulations to the HHS Girls’ Tennis team! The team won the District Championship at Bloomsburg University last week, in addition to the Doubles championship (Allison Mattucci and Rachel Thomas). What a great finish to their season! We’re all so proud of these Spartan athletes.
