Hughesville Locals Nov. 2, 2016
This time of the year the afternoon sun slants across our yard, creating an idyllic appearance of peace and contentment. This view from my window inspires thoughts of just how beautiful this season is, and how nice it would be to stop time and revel in the perfection of an October afternoon.
Of course, now November is underway, and we have a short few days until Election Day. Once Wednesday arrives, we can hope that we will be spared the onslaught of political ads that have been unavoidable for several weeks.
Much thanks goes to Hughesville’s Friends of the Library for putting together a wonderful children’s Halloween Party. Members and staff arranged lots of activities for the kids and it was well attended. No one went home empty handed with all of the crafts and treats they provided. We are so fortunate to have such an outstanding resource for our children.
Congratulations Joani Yagel for being nominated as one of this year’s Women of Excellence through the YWCA. Your hours of community service and helping others not only through Hughesville’s Family Practice Center, but as a lay minister at Friends Church are well deserving for the award.
On another positive track, I only have to look to young people in our area. Following the accomplishments of the Girls’ Tennis Team, some more Hughesville High School athletes have given us reason to be proud, with the victory on Friday of the Spartan football team over archrival Muncy! HHS will now compete in a play-off game against Wellsboro at Mansfield University this Friday night. Hurrah, Spartans!
Did you notice the scarecrows yet on the light poles downtown?
