Muncy locals Nov. 16, 2016
Veterans Day was busy. The schools held some wonderful programs on Friday, and the weekend was full of activity. The Muncy Craft show was well attended with a roll out crowd starting at 9 a.m. This year I found some home made body lotions, scented soy candles, and copper jewelry.
Later on Saturday I attended the charity event at Hughesville Fire Hall sponsored by the Messiah Lutheran Churches in the area. Starting with a turkey dinner and cake, an auction was held to raise money for the churches and other organizations such as the Food Bank and World Hunger. Everything is donated and close to 7,000 dollars is raised each year through such tremendous community support. I especially applaud Frances Spring who helps organize the event each year and does much of the fundraising through her quilting. Happy Birthday Frances to a wonderful job and your amazing talent with the help of the Messiah quilters every Wednesday morning plus your quilting classes Monday nights in Clarkstown. Your young age at 91 on Nov. 18 is commendable!
The New York Institute of Technology announced that soon seniors will be sporting “smart vests.” These are designed to remind older adults to take medications and also can send out an alert in case of a fall. Another digital makeover – smart cars, smart watches and now smart clothes! These clothes will have some kind of “futuristic threads” so designers can sew or embroider circuits into the fabric. The University of Nottingham already develped smart socks to help people with diabetes.
