Muncy Locals Feb. 8, 2017
I have some official news to report this week for Pennsylvania. The world famous groundhog saw his shadow in Punxsutawney and predicted six more weeks of winter. So those gardens will have to wait awhile.
Our state governor merged the Departments of Aging, Health and Human Services, and Drug and Alchohol programs into one single state agency. There is a general consenus this will be a more efficient system.
Tuesday is Valentine’s Day and keep in mind Muncy’s wonderful choices of restaurants for dining out that will please just about every budget and palate.
The Lycoming County Conservation District is offering evergreen, hardwood and fruit tree seedlings to the public for a nominal fee. The seedlings must be pre-ordered and prepaid. Orders will be accepted until April 14 at the County district office by calling 570-433-3003. They request to have them picked up between noon and 6 p.m. on Friday, April 21st at the County Farm complex off Warrensville Road.
The Muncy Resiliency Project is getting a good start and requests are suggested from the community and residents as to what we think Muncy’s identity should be for this capstone project. Many say the architecture is one of Muncy’s best assets as well as the shade trees and the recreational opportunities of the river. At the MPBA meeting it was said that all roads lead to Muncy. A Facebook page is set up for your feedback and suggestions would be much appreciated to get this project underway. It is in the planning stages but a timeline and a strategic plan is being developed through the state and the county to retrofit the old “Opera House.” A foundation needs to be formed to purchase the Ritz Theatre and the Opera House in order to move forward with the resiliency project. It will take close to a year to form the foundation and players are badly needed. If you have any interest, go to the Facebook page or contact the Muncy Borough office. This will be a community decision and more “stakeholders” are needed. The momentum is there for this once in a lifetime opportunity.
