Muncy Locals Feb. 15, 2017
I received my nice packet of information in the mail from the Muncy Historical Society, and they also included an annoucement about their annual quilt show this July. We like to make the quilts during the cold months and display them in warm months. It will be a juried show and a great opportunity to display that family heirloom. The musem will have some nice textile displays from their own collections and some from private owners. To enter the show or to attend, more information can be seen on their website at muncyhistoricalsociety.org.
Many of the residents were relieved to know they can get another full time officer to cover the Muncy borough. There are many municipalities in Pennsylvania and in Lycoming County that do not have their own police force. Muncy is very fortunate to have the added security.
I noticed that with President’s Day coming upon us, I see several advertisements for mattresses. I have decided to do some research as my husband and I came to the conclusion we needed a replacement. Springs popping out at the sides and chronic shoulder pain are a good indication. February’s issue of Consumer Reports has a comprehensive analysis with ratings and test results on the various types of mattresses. I discovered the Muncy area has the largest selection of stores with mattresses and that you can try them out. You are allowed to lay down on them and sleep on them in order to truly get the experience. Good support is essential and there is a trial period. There’s a huge mark-up so try negotiating, and increase the longevity with a mattress protector and pad. Our next step is to narrow down the selection and be able to agree between innerspring or foam. Adjustable air mattresses are another option and a friend of ours ordered his online. It came packed in a box, less than four feet tall. When he opened the box, it started to expand into its original shape. He had to make sure it was in the bedroom when he did it, and he said it was fun to watch.
Kudos to a determined 11 year old girl from Loyalsock Township who made national recognition with her petition to fund the testing of the backlogged rape kits. Madison Wertz took it upon herself to collect more than 31,000 signatures since January 31st. As of Feb. 8th over 3,000 rape kits were waiting to be tested in Pennsylvania, including 1,852 that are backlogged. This is happening on a national level, in every state, and it took a sixth-grader to do something about it. Very powerful!
