Hughesville Locals Feb. 22, 2017
Did you take advantage of the wonderful, spring-like temperatures last weekend? I enjoyed the respite from the need for many layers, but I always fear that I will mind the cold even more when it returns. I guess we can expect a few ups and downs of the thermometer over the next few weeks.
Congratulations to the Hughesville High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams! Both varsity squads ended their regular seasons with win/loss records that were amazing, and both are currently involved in preparation for play-off games. Way to go, Spartans! The HHS Wrestling team also is to be congratulated for their competitive results in the Sectional meet last weekend. Two Spartans will advance to the District meet this coming weekend (February 25). Congratulations to Conner Kepner and Josh Dauberman!
With the approach of milder weather, we can expect to see some progress on the PennDoT plans for East Water Street and North Main Street. I have no idea when each of these major road-widening and rebuilding projects will begin, but I anticipate that once the noise and dirt are all finished we will all appreciate the end-results. Once things do get started, residents will want to be alert for changes in traffic patterns, detours, or possible delays on these two major borough access roads. Planning for alternate paths to home, businesses, and athletic or church activities may prevent frustration as the work progresses!
I have heard several reports of robins being sighted in town, although I have not seen any myself. I will be looking for them, but hope they are not rushing the season too much!
Have a great week!
